Our Fish Harvest Festival 2017

There was a packed church for our annual Fish Harvest Festival Service.
The service was led by Revd Rose-Hudson-Wilkin. The St Mary-at-Hill choir sang
Choral Mattins which included two former winning Harvest of the Sea compositions:
Never Weather Beaten Sail – by Michael Strange (2014)
The Fishery of souls by Andrew Wilson (2015)
The service also featured music by H. Howells (Jubilate Deo) and T. Hewitt Jones (Carnival)

Bill Thornton and his colleagues once again produced a wonderful display of wet fish
in the entrance hall of St Mary-at-Hill. Much of the fish was donated to the Queen Victoria
Seamen’s Rest and the rest was enjoyed by the congregation in return for donations.

We were joined by the Alderman for Billingsgate Mr Matthew Richardson, and our Common Councillors
Mr Jamie Ingham Clark and Mr Michael Welbank. Also in the picture below is Mrs Mavis Hughesdon,
current Master of the Billingsgate Ward Club who  support our Harvest Festival every year.

Prayers were said for all seafarers including
The Billingsgate Market Prayer specially written by the late Very Revd E. Milner White

O Lord Jesus Christ, who after thy glorious resurrection didst prepare by the waterside a breakfast of fish for disciples that had toiled the whole night long; Come amongst these thy servants who toil beside our river day by day to provide food for their fellow men, and bring thy blessing both on their work and on their lives, O Lord our Saviour and help for ever.
