No two Major Incidents are ever the same. No amount of forethought can accurately predict what will happen next time; but careful post-incident study of shortcomings in any area of response, followed by measures to stop those gaps, means our preparation is constantly enhanced.
The City of London Police, the Emergency Services and the Corporation of London plan, exercise and remain prepared. Visit site to learn more.
City Churches
In any emergency the City Churches, with their sturdy C17th stone walls, remain obvious havens of refuge for all, well-equipped for tending and caring. Some church buildings have specific roles designated for Major Incidents.
Local Training
Under the guidance of the Area Dean (the Rev’d Oliver Ross, based at St Olave Hart Street) our Rector, the Rev'd Canon Flora, organises training for the local clergy, church administrators and for representatives of local firms keen to familiarise themselves with possible emergency scenarios and plan their own responses. Canon Flora is also a TA Chaplain with experience of Major Incidents and Emergencies, here and overseas.
The Training (Project Argus) is given by officers of the Counter Terrorism Section, City of London Police. It takes half a day, is very hands-on, thought-provoking and worthwhile. St Mary’s will host the course for you*, arrange for a course in your own offices, or for a limited number of places on a course already running (probably at Wood St or Snow Hill Police Station).
Next Argus TRAINING AT ST MARY'S Weds 21st March 2012
Practical lectures in First Aid appropriate to Major Incidents* are delivered by volunteers from the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, who are long-term partners with the CoLP in Major Incident response.
There was First Aid Training at St Mary's in June 2011
A certificated one day course is offered on Sat 3rd March 2012 at cost: £22
