The Rt Hon The Lord Paul Boateng, PC DL a lawyer and Member of Grays Inn was MP for Brent South 1987-2005, having served in Cabinet as Chief Secretary to the HM Treasury 2002-2005. He stood down from politics and became UK High Commissioner to South Africa 2005-2009. He is a Freeman of the City of London represents the City on the Board of the Museum of London and is a Director of the Ghana International Bank on Cheapside. He served on the Joint National Security Strategy Committee in the last Parliament and is Chairman of Akyem Law and Advisory Ltd which he founded in 2011 to advise on legal regulatory and geo political risk as it affects emerging markets in Africa. He is currently Chairman of the Nairobi based Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund a $250 million plus multi donor fund to support private sector initiatives in agriculture and renewable energy benefiting small farmers across Africa. He is Chairman of the English Speaking Union, Book Aid International and the International Council of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Foundation. A Methodist lay Preacher he is an Ecumenical Chalice Bearer at the Grosvenor Chapel, is married to Janet Lady Boateng and they have five children and seven grand children.
