Last night we held our Candlelit Carol Service. We welcomed friends of the church who have been attending the service for many years and new friends who joined us for the first time. It was especially lovely to welcome some of the family of the late Venerable Archdeacon Brian Kirk-Duncan who was Rector of St Mary-at-Hill for many years from 1962 onwards.
The service as always, was supported by the Billingsgate Ward Club and we were delighted to welcome the Master of the Girdlers Company and the Master of the Company of Water Conservators. We were also pleased to welcome Juliet Hill, her family and staff from Surbiton High School. Juliet won the Surbiton High School Poem Competition with her poem ‘The Promised Child.’
The choir directed by our Director of Music Robert Mingay Smith sang beautifully and performed the winning entry
of our carol competition 2017, A Promised Child by Christopher Artley, text by Juliet Hill.
The Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin preached about joy as we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus at Christmas.
