Colonel Bob Stewart DSO and MP for Beckenham talks about his time in Bosnia

On Thursday November 3rd Col Bob Stewart DSO was the speaker at our Thursday Conversation.

Bob Stewart

Bob spoke engagingly and candidly about growing up in a military family, his tours of duty in Ireland and coping with the loss of 6 of his soldiers in the Ballykelly bombing on December 6th 1982.

The main part of his talk described his commission to lead the first British soldiers into Bosnia as Britsh UN Commander in 1992. The reason for his talk title, ‘Ethical Decision Making Under Fire’  became evident as he described the process of creating a strategy in the face of little direct instruction from above. He spoke about his overall mission, which he decided was ‘to save lives’ and the audience was thoroughly engaged and affected by some of the stories and photos he shared with us.
